Classification of Law |
Law is mainly classified into two main categories.
1. International Law
2. Domestic law
International Law:
International law is a set of rules and regulation which determine the conduct of general body of civilized states in their mutual dealings. (Lawrence).
International law is divided into two types which are;
i. Public International Law,
ii. Private International Law.
Public International Law:
It is the substantive international law among different civilized state.
Private International Law:
It is the set of rules determined by the people of different community or states for mutual dealings in other state.
Domestic Law:
It is the law of a state for itself regarding relation of people with one another and relation of people with the state.
It has two types as;
i. Substantive Law,
ii. Procedural Law.
Substantive Law:
This law, simply we can say, defines our rights and duties in a state.
It is classified into two types as;
A. Public Domestic Law,
B. Private Domestic Law.
Public Domestic Law:
It is that domestic law which shows the relation between the people and the state in the same state.
It has further three types as;
a) Constitutional Law,
b) Administrative Law,
c) Criminal Law.
Constitutional Law:
It is the law dealing with the constitution of a state.
Administrative Law:
It deals with the implementation of constitution on the people in a state.
Criminal Law;
It deals with the relation between the offence – crime, made against a state and the state.
Private Domestic Law:
It deals with the relationship among the people with one another in a state.
It has the following types;
i. Law of Torts
ii. Contract Law
iii. Family Law
iv. Property Law
v. Employment Law etc.

Procedural law:
Simply we can say that it deals with the procedures how to pay duty and how to get rights.
